I'm not, and never was, in the music beat, but I received a press kit once. There was this Venezuelan band that was visiting my country and they knocked on the newsroom's door when I was the only one working there. They gave me a legit copy of their debut CD, with case, booklet and all, plus a promotional DVD with text, photos and I think a couple of videos. I really wasn't the person to move it around but I listened to the CD and enjoyed it a lot so I decided I'd give the press kit to a more knowledgeable colleague. I didn't, though.
Fast forward a couple of years and the video for one of the songs is rotating on the MTV. I felt relieved because the guilt had been bothering me all that time. What if they never got into the limelight because of my inaction? What if they stopped distributing their press kit because no journalist was paying them attention? Fortunately someone did. Fortunately they had some success and the world got to know such a good band.
