So mad at the food industry today.

Basically they change their servings as they see fit. So so mad. So mad.

SO MAD!! I can't even speak more. :@

One of the reasons why the people of this country are so fat anymore. We have the mentality that more is better and most of us eat way more than we need to and have rather sedentary lives playing video games or watching the boob tube for hours on end everyday.

Not only are the serving sizes all buggered up...but most of the food is POISON. It's so overly processed and loaded with sugar, salt, high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, etc.  If you do want to eat healthy, then you WILL pay a premium to do it unless you grow/raise your own food.

Yeah agreed. So tired of trying to figure out what's going to kill me and how much until it does lol.

I grew up my younger years in italy where serving sizes were much smaller and the eating habits healthier than americans...plate sizes are much much smaller at restaurants and the italians always complain about american eating habits...but seeing that video is so true. serving sizes have increased in certain products. i personally think that the serving sizes in america vary as well. good video. xx

What are the sizes like in Italy? I am always thinking ours are way too big here. I can get a drink the size of my head for barely $1....but if I ask for water I have to pay $3.

It would be nice if the sizes were decent but not insane. The WHO says 12 fries is a serving. That's insane. Tell me a small fries is a serving, not 1/8th of them LOL.

It would be easier to be healthy if they'd just make it feel achievable and not give us information that's clearly marketing and not information.

I agree with this. It is not only in the US that serving sizes have grown, but you should see them here in South Africa! People overeat all the time. I also check my food all the time to see what it contains and try to eat as natural and fresh as possible, most of the time. I do believe that a lot of the food we are eating is killing us.

Amen to that OracleMay!!!!!

I try to buy everything fresh or semi processed - ie frozen vegetables/fruit or perhaps pasta sauce that has nothing but tomatoes and herbs (and is in glass). Also things I can't always make myself like pasta, bread, etc. Hopefully one day I will though! :)

It's hard to eat healthy when there's so much marketing involved in everything. I don't know what's truth anymore.

My husband and son like store bought bread, but I prefer making my own. I really enjoy a flat bread or pitta bread with a little spice or herbs. It only takes minutes to mix and bake in the oven. I have found that in many instances store bought bread made me feel bad. Sometimes I would suffer from heartburn. The freshly baked is not too bad, but I still prefer my own. I have also recently taken to making my own pasta with flour. It is quite simple. After mixing I just roll it out, let it dry with a fan and cut with a scissors. Then I cook it. Fresh makes a huge difference.

I belong to a site called Digestion.com. I was shocked to discover how many people are living with different types of digestive conditions in the world today. Most have similar symptoms, yet hundreds and thousands still go undiagnosed, unable to get help. Most live with their conditions and use medications as relief. In many instances dietary changes have helped. Spending time on this site made me aware of how dangerous it is to eat food without knowing what is in it. A lifetime of eating this way can make you really ill.

I was experiencing several symptoms at the time, and had been for months. I did quite a lot of research and discovered that my digestive system is about seventy percent of my immune system. (I was not aware of this). This realization was enough to motivate me to take better care of it. I made a few simple changes to my diet and began to feel better almost immediately. I have to say that several months later, I now have no symptoms at all.

Where before we would eat all sorts of processed foods and buy whatever, cold meats, sausages, viennas, you name it! I have now turned my families diet back to plain home cooking. We eat chicken almost every day with carbs, rice or potatoes, pasta and vegetables. We do eat other foods, but we limit them. I want to know that everything I buy is good, nutritious, safe and fresh. Old style home cooking seems to be the healthiest way to go. We have even started baking our own biscuits, pies etc. Staying as far away from processed stuff as much as possible. I make my own pickles and sun dried tomatoes in the oven.

I am waiting for my new food processor and then I will start making my own natural peanut butter etc.

Eating this way does sometimes take a little more time, but it is healthier. It does not take so much time that I do not want to do it. I have learned from recipes I find on the internet.

Shopping for food has become a lot simpler as you know exactly what you are going to buy and you stay away from preservative loaded foods. I even make my own syrup.

I don't like anything to be complicated and I find living this way a lot simpler and healthier.

We all want take-out on occasion and of-course we do have it, but we eat simply most of the time.

Here in the Philippines, the serving sizes of food is a lot smaller compared to other countries. Our cup noodles are just half the size of Korean noodles. I've heard that the size of our burgers are smaller, too. Filipinos love to eat but the small serving sizes in fast food as well as instant food is okay with us; maybe because we prefer home cooked food.

I wish our sizes were far smaller...I really do. I don't like that we've been brought up to think those sizes are normal, it makes us feel like we're starving when we are struggling to eat right :(.

I like to snack all day and my portions are always small enough but when I do get a big plate of food or a hefty portion my brain has finally been programmed to say stop and eat it later. It has helped me especially with sitting infront of a computer all day!!

This week has been a bad week for snacking because it is getting cold and I have eaten whatever I can find to eat which has been a lot of junk all at once. Hopefully my mental block will go away soon and I can get back to normal.

About Bunny
Jade Elizabeth is an eccentric young woman who enjoys writing stories and poems with hidden deeper meanings. She is quoted saying “Writing to me is not a hobby. It's a passion. It's something that lets my thoughts expose themselves, and my heart shine through where other art could not.

Commonly her poems are inspired by love or depression, and are dedicated to the people who encouraged the emotion. Given the chance she will readily pull her poems apart, exposing the deeper and hidden meanings behind her words.

Her stories are usually unspoken messages to those close to her – giving every story a hidden meaning. Some things are better left unsaid, or in her case, expressed indirectly through stories.

Jade used to write Documentation for Simple Machines in her free time, but has since begun studying and working, which takes up most of her free time now.
