We spent the next 2 weeks together, just the strange one, Arnold, and I. We had a lot of fun and forgot about the world…but every night we would curl up on the couch, just as we had the first night. We still hadn’t done anything, we didn’t even have the unrelenting desire like before. I mean we felt it, but it just wasn’t enough to make us go feral and ravage the other.

It was like we were doing it over how it was supposed to be done. Moving closer slowly, like we were dating…except we shared a bed, and we’d already had sex before.

On the 18th of December, however, that all changed. We were sitting on the couch like normal, except we were staring into each others eyes. Arnold was purring happily (he hated everyone in the world except for the strange one and I) on my chest until he was sent to the floor with a gentle sweep of the strange ones hand. With Arnold gone, he leaned in and kissed me softly. Eventually we were making love on the couch of my grandparents cabin! I don’t think they would mind. Nothing would have made them happier than seeing him and I as a couple.

Afterwards, as we lay there, he asked me to marry him. I was shocked and started babbling about how we didn’t even know if we could live together and he said we were living together. We were, but it wasn’t real…we were in a cabin, hours away from any stress life may bring! He kissed me softly and told me we could do it, but I didn’t respond.

He apologized, and hugged me tightly (I was so shocked I didn’t respond to that either) and then he went off into the bedroom. I sat up and he came out with his bags. I tried to stop him, but he said he should go...
