All day long yesterday I was bombarded with "holiday music". Notice I said holiday music. No Christmas songs at all. No mention of the reason for the season. No mention of Christ our savior. I heard Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, Santa Claus Has Gone Hollywood, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, Jingle Bell Rock, Rocking Around the Christmas Tree...

Heck, I'm progressive enough to allow Jesus Christ to be a superstar, but these days he has been totally eliminated. Christians, we have to fight back. We have to prayerfully request our radio stations play more spiritual music. I want to hear the carols about our savior. At least be fair and let the children hear as much about baby Jesus as they do about Santa Claus. The holiday spirit should be about more than getting a new Itoy.

What is a "holiday" if not a "holy day"?

Baby Jesus has these atheists wrapped around his little finger.

Even when they don't think they're singing about him they're singing about him...

Frosty the Snowman, who "is a fairy tale they say" but "the children know" that "he came to life one day".  He was "alive as he could be" (John 10:10), exhorted "catch me if you can" (Isa 55:6) as he brought joy to humankind knowing his time on earth was short.  He submitted to the authorities (traffic cop), died, and "will be back again someday", waving "goodbye" (God be with you) and "don't you cry" (Rev 7:17).

If you want to celebrate the birth of Jesus feel free to do so... at the time of year at which he would have been born, not in December.

Personally I think we should be putting the Pagan back into the season, after all it was a Pagan festival that had been going for centuries that the Christians chose to hijack.

Christmas is a commercial holiday. At least it is for most people.

I'm not religious. But I do worry about creating these commercial holidays that cause us to go into debt and buy wasteful gifts that were all made in China, or whatnot and shipped across the universe on a boat leaking oil into the ocean and all that jazz.

But I like having a divide between my holiday music and my spiritual music. Frankly, not everyone is Christian. And it sucks to have every public space (malls, grocery stores, the dentists office) invaded with spiritual music. You know?

Okay. Rant-ish over.

Merry Christmas to you! And anyone else who celebrates.

To the rest of you, have an awesome holiday from school/or whatnot. Spend time with friends and family. Eat yummy stuff to stave off the cold weather. Be happy. Be healthy.

In Spain, Christmas is still a religious festival more than anything else, but they know how to party, and they achieve a pleasing balance of religion and enjoyment.

Personally, I always refer to the season as 'Christmas,' not 'holidays.' We do need to take time to remember why we celebrate, whether we are religious or not. You can't get away from it, even though He may not have been born at that particular time.

Sorry but the total commercialism of the whole thing makes it an
annoyance. The symbol of Christmas is not Christ, it is a guy who looks like
Karl Marx who wears a red suit and makes appearances at major stores.
And guess what, before the day is even come and gone the ads for boxing day sales will be out, on the radio and television and in flyers everywhere.
And geez the message about Christmas shopping starts up as soon as the witches and
tombstones are cleared away after halloween.
Sorry but it is not about anything but spending money, shopping.

As a pagan I echo Haffina, this season is a Pagan holiday adapted by the christian faith so they didnt have to create a new holiday to the OP Jesus would have been born March/April, then it became comercial.

Today is Yule, it is the Pagan Holiday, also know as Winter Solciste, its been alround alot longer than Christmas in any form!

Teamrose please do research and if you go to church speak to your minister, even my parents who are Christian agree with me.

Adapted also so that the old school Christians could overtake the Pagan believers into Christianity! :)
