As part of our http://www.creativeburrow.org/index.php?topic=1826.0 I'm going to make you practice designing covers - because one day you may have to!

Requirements to Enter
 - BunnyRabbitSex member.
 - Have posted an introduction topic.
 - Have requested a badge (ask in your intro or PM me).

Requirements for Entries
I want you to take or find a photo of anyone or anything. It can be anything you like, but if it's nude please make it tasteful. When you have a photo you like you can edit it as you wish and then design a front cover for a MAGAZINE with it (no backs). Cover must be (w x h) 5" x 8" (360px x 576px) for a digest OR 8" x 10" (576px x 720px) for a "regular" magazine.

The cover must include:
-Magazine Name
-At least one story hook

When you've designed your cover, post it as a reply to this topic and let us know if you took the photo yourself. You can post as many as you like! ONE COVER PER POST! Do not use images which have already been used in this topic.

Judges and Judging Method
We will have a system of judging where covers with photos taken by hand will start with 5 points automatically, and all covers will score 1-10 from each judge (Niffah and Bunny). Most points wins!

Due Date and Prize
You have until the 30th May to submit covers. After 11:59pm on the 30th (forum time), submission will be considered closed. The winner will be allowed to choose a book from the second hand book pile, which is shown in the main announcement topic.

Resources to Help
Deviant Art - Free photos
Google Search of Free image editing programs - Paint.net, FotoFlexer, and Gimp are all really good alternatives if you don't have photoshop.
Tiny Pic - A place to upload images. Please register for free first so they always stay online there :).

Those look pretty cool Tank, I really like the flower shot. Here's my try:

Not my own photo but still a good find!

Why/advice: I love the photo. It's interesting because it has silverware in the background, so it's not just flowers. It looks like it was taken at night though because of the amount of light reflecting off of it, or perhaps that was flash.

I have issue with it being so dark though. To appeal to women with a flower magazine it needs to be light and airy, because flowers are supposed to be uplifting – not weighted. That's why we're happy when you give them to us!! :P

The pick of flowers, the silverware, etc, is all perfect....the only issue is the dark red background. If that were white it would have allowed the font to be a different colour also, which is also my issue. I like that it matches the center flower but it's kind of weird.

Also, you misspelled Edition XD.

Why/advice: I love the name and title. Not so much on the positioning/gap, but I like the font choice and the colour. Not sure on the blue but I suspect that that's because it was an American mag and you wanted to theme it.

I like the photo, but I wish it were closer up so the top of the page didnt feel so blank though! I like the ideas behind the hooks too, the “in action” one especially, it invokes curiosity which is good!

Why/advice: Love it!! I love the photo, especially the colouring of the tank (I know you made the model tank, but the appearance of it just MAKES the cover). My only issue with this, which prevents it getting a 10, is the title/hook layout.

Where Tank Australia is I like, BUT I  think it would look better if:
     1) Australia was indented.
     2) Tiger I Review wasnt the same size on the other side.

See, with the same size over the other side it reads as “Tank Tiger I, Australia Review” which is what I thought it was...till I read your text. I think you could have put TANK in HUGE capitals across the top and AUSTRALIA a 3rd of the size stretched out beneith it and it would have looked awesome. Then put the Tiger I review where ever on the page you wanted to :D.

But I love it like I said. It looks awesome :D.

Why/advice: LOVE IT!! It's STEAMY and sexy, and you're right on the photo: DEFINITELY a good find!!

I love the font choice but I'm not sure if it's the right idea for the hooks OR the "new york" part of the title. I think I'd have made the New York part thinner and wider. More of a sticky firm font if you get what I mean. I think you were trying to do that cause It looks like the same font just squashed lol.

I like the colour choices too but I'm on the fence about the gradient AND the gold, both of them together sort of screws with the identity of the cover I feel. Had you used blue or white instead of gold it would have worked out.

And nice hooks/diction by the way!

Why/advice: I like this a lot – reminds me of Women’s Weekly special edition magazines from the 80s. There are a few spelling and grammatical errors that let down presentation a little. ‘Inside This Edition’ should perhaps have been underlined to make it clearer that what is below it is a list. Overall I like the composition and the photo is fantastic.

Why/advice: The first thing I thought when I saw this was my dad’s old science magazines that he used to collect. It has that kind of 70s and 80s feel – which I actually quite like. There are a few spacing issues, but on the whole the composition feels good.

Why/advice: This feels like its missing something – it didn’t grab my attention. The text seems all squished up in the corner and looks a little rushed. I would probably skip over this if I saw it in the newsagent.

Why/advice: Certainly an attention grabber! This has a very modern look, and whilst slightly risqué, it is still tasteful. I quite like the gradients used on the lettering (even whilst I know some dislike gradients LOL).  Overall, fabulous composition.

Yeah that gradient thing was kinda risky but I'd say that if she didnt pull it off she certainly didnt destroy it either, so it's acceptable or it makes the cover depending on person.

Tally:
#1: 8 + 8 = 16
#2: 7 + 7 = 14
#3: 9 + 7 = 16
#4: 9 + 9 = 18

That leaves us with Kimberley winning by two points! :D
Nice work guys, you did great, and congrats to both of you for taking the time to enter. If nothing else you've gained some experience in cover design :D.

About Bunny
Jade Elizabeth is an eccentric young woman who enjoys writing stories and poems with hidden deeper meanings. She is quoted saying “Writing to me is not a hobby. It's a passion. It's something that lets my thoughts expose themselves, and my heart shine through where other art could not.

Commonly her poems are inspired by love or depression, and are dedicated to the people who encouraged the emotion. Given the chance she will readily pull her poems apart, exposing the deeper and hidden meanings behind her words.

Her stories are usually unspoken messages to those close to her – giving every story a hidden meaning. Some things are better left unsaid, or in her case, expressed indirectly through stories.

Jade used to write Documentation for Simple Machines in her free time, but has since begun studying and working, which takes up most of her free time now.
