PLEASE SUGGEST A NAME HERE IN CASE THE POLL IS A YES!

Sometimes we end up in hot water because people assume our name means porn or erotica 0o0, and people throw up their arms kicking and screaming and running for cover. How could they taint their reputation (A) with us (666), after all?  8-|

I've seen several people in the past 4 years throw up roadblocks and run the opposite direction simply over our name . One refusing to click (and having the audacity to come and tell me that on Twitter!), and one stating he would not be affiliated with the name :X.

The ironic part is NOT ONE OF THESE PEOPLE ACTUALLY CAME TO THE SITE to see for themselves . Not one of them read anything about us, or on us, to answer their "fears" and "insecurities" with our name. Even the people on Twitter who had already associated with us by @ mentioning us, did not even click our Twitter name to find out for themselves!

OBVIOUSLY, our name is utterly terrifying :cantlook:.

We've always had the belief that a writer who is not brave, no not fearless enough! >=O To click our name is not the sort of writer we're trying to get to notice us . We want only one sort of writer. A writer who is open minded, passionate, brimming with personality, and fearless!

Which, luckily you all are. And it's why WE LOVE YOU.

I think it's a problem within them, it's THEIR insecurity with OUR name, so why should we change? We don't have the insecurity....so to see if I am right, I have started this poll.

Should we change our beloved name, or do we love it?!

I've gone for 'maybe,' because I can't 100% go for 'yes' or 'no.' You see, the name made me look, just to see what it was like, but I'm enough of a writer and a cynic to realise that you're not going to advertise a forum for - Bunny Rabbit Sex - quite as openly as you do. I reckoned it was a combination of a marketing ploy to 'make you look,' and a test to see what sort of people did look, and I've been proved right, I think.

Now for the uncertainty. This is your brand name, and it's got a loyal following, but at the same time, it's likely to put people off as well as draw them in, and as a forum name, it doesn't really tell potential members what the forum is all about. It needs some thought, but it's your forum, and your call.

It's definitely a name where you're going to have take the bad with the good. I even re-considered joining because my sites are PG-13. No, it's not p*rn, but it does very blatantly have the word 'sex' in the title. That meant right away that I knew I wouldn't really be able to connect or promote my own site with BRS and vice versa. I joined anyway because the site was relevant to me on a personal level instead and I thought it might be beneficial from a writer's perspective, but from a marketing side of things, I knew I was going to be missing out some.

I don't want you to change the name and I think it makes you unique. I just think you have to have the tough skin and more dedication/motivation to keep pushing on the marketing side because you're going to exclude a set of people who won't click that word at all and will definitely judge without looking.

I think that the question 'to change or not to change' in part depends on where you want to go with the site and what you want to accomplish. I actually had no idea what the site was but visited and found out it was a writer - artist - reader site. Okay. And I was glad I visited.
Obviously. But the name could actually be an obstacle. Like I said, it depends where you want to go and what you want to accomplish. And the content, IE the posts and the members would not change with a name change.

No. It's an awesome name.

Although getting another domain might help. Our domain will be keyword blocked by some filters.

I should chime in I guess ha ha.

The name is supposed to be memorable. You can't forget BunnyRabbitSex. I'm also willing and prepared to go to extra lengths because of our name.

As for another domain we did have a backdoor planned (ha ha) but no one knew how to code it lol.

I think the name is cutsey, but should be changed because it really doesn't make it easy for people to know what the site is all about. I think this is a great site and would grow exponentially, if people had a clue what's it's all about.

Would you name your grocery store Ritzy Kinky? Of course not. A company name should really identify the product and be easily recognizable to the masses. However, if you just want to keep the site exclusive and limited to a select few, BunnyRabbitSex is the perfect name.

I love the story behind the name. At first, I was super worried. Yes. I read "sex" and went... Porn? Erotica? Sexy-times with bunnies?!

But when I found the story, it actually grew on me a ton.

In the end, you're looking at a reputation thing. Are you looking to garner more professional writers? And I think I need to define my term a little more: if you want to be taken seriously by writers of all ages who want to publish their stuff in many genres, the name is hurting you. If you want to be a community of awesome writers who support each other and don't give a darn about the connotations of the name, then you don't have a problem.

Who is your audience? Who do you want to join you here? Think that one over and you'll find more things to place in the change or not change your name columns.

No, no and no again. Let's step back a bit and look at what we are trying to do. Are we trying to win a popularity contest? I think not. Are we running for public office? I think not. Yes, I know that there are still human beings out there who think that sex is a dirty word. And I agree with the sentiment I found in this poster.

So I vote for 'keep the name' and ignore the puritanical hypocrites. Sorry if that came out rather bluntly but that's the way I feel about this issue. If the puritanical hypocrites insist on being insulted and offended by being called puritanical hypocrites, then there's nothing much I can do to stop them from feeling so.

Personally, I stopped coming because the critiques were nonexistent, or when they did exist, generally insipid, rather than the name.

The name probably makes people forget about considering it, however. To be frank, I probably never would have bothered coming in the first place had I not been talking to you regularly. This has nothing to do with "sex being a bad word" and everything to do with seriously not remembering what the hell the site is for. It's not as memorable as you seem to think, as I consistently forget the site exists, even with you on my FB and even while receiving emails like the one that alerted me to this topic.

What's your goal? Is it to have a consistently growing, vibrant community, or to have a huddled crowd of people who are used to each other and know each other's preferences?

If you want the former, change it. If you want the latter, leave it.

If you want to keep the same sort of theme with a name, you could have it be Fluffy Bunny Writer Hugbox or something. Storm and I came up with that after a minute and a half of brainstorming however, so who knows how that'll go. He suggested something more biting and clever, but we'll leave that for another day.

Quite frankly I consider myself in all modesty to be neither puritannical nor a hypocrite. I made a suggestion about where the moderator wishes to take the forum and what she wishes to accomplish. That IMHO does not make me a puritan or hypocrite. Nor to be quite blunt do I have a disapproving attitude to sex in whatever variety or form as long as it is consenting parties.
I never implied I was insulted by the name nor did I comment negatively about visiting a forum with a name that had any sex connection. I made a suggestion in regard to where the moderator wished this forum to go.

As a second point, it is interesting to note the current results on the voting although I am aware that the voting is not close to closing at this point.

YES it is very interesting. I havent re-checked it yet. I'm afraid to look. Okay I will look. I guess we should probably at least LOOK into other possible names, the way this poll is going.

Runics poetry isn't about formalities, it's about expression, so I guess from your point of view it might appear that way. Regardless of how you view his poetry he was the second member to join and for a long time all of the poetry on here was his, mine, and Lunah's. He's been a huge help getting us where we are today.

As for critiquing, it would be nice to have more of that yes. We've got a lot more members than when you were here last - and they're more active, so hopefully that will help. Additionally the "do you want critique" stuff is in action now :).

His poetry didn't seem to be about much of anything, but I digress. I've got a group that I do critique-work with now, and they're quite skilled and have a decent literary background, so if I want to try something trickier than writing the next fantasy heartbreaker, I can rely on advice that I can be guaranteed has a passing familiarity with writers I would like to emulate someday, like Anzaldúa, Ellison, Wright or Hinojosa.

Also, in the story board, like, a dozen stories have been posted in three years. That's not terribly active. I'll stick with my crew, thanks.

Officially this poll is not closed yet but it seems like all the activity moved over to the subsequent and related question of what should the name be. So  are the results in or closed early?

I think we're seriously considering it, given how the results are. I would prefer more members to vote though, so we will leave it for a little longer and send out a reminder soon :).

I think some of us might have our opinion weighing on *what* the name might be changed to, too.

So I'm open to the name being changed if people decide they really want it to be, but I'm not going to be quite as supportive if you settle on a crappy new name. ;)

I love your name as it is...its kinda cute yet kinda racey. Actually it was your name that caught my interest enough to look at the site. Seriously I wouldn't change it because you already have a following. Do you seriously want people who are so uber conservative they refuse to even look past a cutesie name? I think this site is awesome and any changes to come I am sure with be of the same....

Yeah the problem is that we want to get agents and publishers here, as well as other professionals...who may be unwilling to have their branding touch the name.

It was a bit confusing and I only looked you up because I was slightly intrigued although I have seen bunny sex in my day! You make it clear it is a writers forum; I wouldn't worry at all!

What, to you, would a crappy name consist of? Hemingway Rocks? I like it because I like Hemingway but BunnyRabbitSex is interesting and people don't get fired up about Hemingway like they used to! Mockingbird Press? I just reread To Kill a Mockingbird so I am excited by it. I'll be thinking about this.

About Bunny
Jade Elizabeth is an eccentric young woman who enjoys writing stories and poems with hidden deeper meanings. She is quoted saying “Writing to me is not a hobby. It's a passion. It's something that lets my thoughts expose themselves, and my heart shine through where other art could not.

Commonly her poems are inspired by love or depression, and are dedicated to the people who encouraged the emotion. Given the chance she will readily pull her poems apart, exposing the deeper and hidden meanings behind her words.

Her stories are usually unspoken messages to those close to her – giving every story a hidden meaning. Some things are better left unsaid, or in her case, expressed indirectly through stories.

Jade used to write Documentation for Simple Machines in her free time, but has since begun studying and working, which takes up most of her free time now.
