Heads up, all you wonderful people. This is one old man taking his first peek at this forum. Yes sir, I am really, really old. Come next year, I will have already spent six decades wandering around on this lonely planet.

So what have I done all these years? Well, a bit here and a bit there. Nothing spectacular. Haven't even traveled around the world yet. Or even half-way round the world. Just been up north a bit and spent twenty years in Thailand. Boy, that was the nearest thing to heaven next to paradise.

The only thing that I have been doing consistently is write. No, I didn't learn to lisp in English from my mother's lips but I love the English language, warts and all. Actually I think of myself as a wordsmith. No, I am not pretending to be more than what I am because that's exactly what I do. I don't just write. I take words and hammer them into shape. I even make up new words as I go along.

So I am looking forward to learning more about this wordcraft from all you wonderful people here.

Ol' Brer Rabbit, huh?

You realize of course that the archetype for Brer is The Trickster ...  :)

No, I wasn't aware of that, actually. I only thought of Brer as a replacement for Mr. However, since you have pointed it out, I did look up on that trickster bunny you mentioned. Not such a bad character after all. If only I were half as quick-witted as he was.

I bow to you, my good Sifu. One of these days, we must really look into doing something together. I am not sure what we can do together but I believe it will be something out of this world. Somehow your presence makes my eye for out-of-the-ordinary-angle becomes a tad sharper.

You two are AWESOME! Only a wordsmith could see sifu instead of stfu like we first saw (embarrassingly so).

Also I'm sorry for butchering that word but I'm on my phone with no spell check ha ha.

Welcome to BRS!

Now that's an idea. I mean I never realized that Sifu can be mistaken for Stfu, at a glance. Of course, I have an unfair advantage. I know Chinese very well. So I connect immediately with Sifu which means 'master' in Chinese.

Still, I will keep that in mind. One of these days, I may find reason to say something like Stfu Phil. Shhh, don't tell him I said that. He will knock my block off for sure. Maybe all the way into the middle of next week.

That's why I thank the Tao every day that my name isn't "Bator" ...

I could never raise a hand to my Brother-in-Spirit.

... a foot, maybe ...

Bunny, the lottery here just went to the highest ever - over $400 million USD. People are going to be going crazy for the next few days - couple that with the Black Friday incidents we had and you're talking total decline of society.

I'm glad I sit inside my cubbyhole and type.

Yesterday I said the world was going insane. Everyone was upset and selfish and to be honest I was getting really tired of it and I said that the crime rates were going to skyrocket, so maybe I was detecting the lottery ha ha.

It got me pretty worked up, I ended up yelling at 3 separate people for being selfish and not considering other peoples feelings....and not once was it about me lol.

Only 3? That's a rather tame explosion. One of these days, you should try getting up on a stage in front of a ten-thousand crowd. Then start yelling your head off about how TPTB are screwing everybody. If you shout fast enough, you may be able to say quite a lot before they drag you off the stage. And into the Black Maria parked outside.

I can too fly like that!!  :pout:

I believe I can fly
I believe I can bite your thigh
I think about it every night and day
Make the Kniggits yell "RUN AWAY!"
I believe I can soar
And Castle Antrax is just filled with whores
I believe I can fly
I believe I can fly
I believe I can fly

About Victor Leigh
My first impression of the English language was pain. That's mainly because I went to a kindergarten run by an Indian man who truly believed in spoiling the rod and not sparing the child. Good thing kindergarten lasted only for one year. Otherwise I would have been scarred for life.

My next impression of the English language was love. After kindergarten I went to another school. In the third year of my primary school, a very nice lady from Australia was my English teacher. She was on some kind of volunteer service. She made the English lessons very wonderful experiences. I learned to love the English language. After she returned to Australia, we kept in touch by correspondence. Yes, that's snail mail. I lost touch with her after she got married and had a couple of kids. She should be a grandmother by now. Yes, I will remember Miss J.K. Ingersoll for a very long time indeed.

So an Australian sparked my love for English. Then an Irishman shaped my skills with the language. Mr. Ray Hall was my English teacher when I was in upper secondary school. He was a big man. With a very big heart. He left his homeland to devote his life to helping less fortunate children. There were many boys and girls from poor families who had benefited from his help and finished their education in Irish universities. Even now as I write, I can sense Mr. Hall looking over my shoulder. I hope that, wherever he is now in heaven, he will know that I have tried my best to pass on the knowledge that he had imparted to me.

I have spent many years teaching the kiddies how not to speak Engrish. I have taught in Malaysia and I have taught in Thailand. I have taught in public schools and I have taught in private schools. I have even taught in my own language school.

Now I am entering my sixth decade on this lonely planet. Finally I have launched into cyber space. More adventure lies ahead of me.

The best is yet to come.
