How much money do you typically spend on books and movies each month? I typically don't buy books because my local library has a great selection. I use Netflix for $9 a month for movies and only go to the cinema once or twice a month. The cinema where I live is quite expensive - around $13 for a ticket, and I always get lured into buying movie snacks! I think that I spend about $50 a month in total in movies when I go to the cinema twice.

I spend about $10 a month on Hulu, and I use my mums Netflix. I don't often buy books, when I do they are no more than $4. I am not really rich to be frank. Far from it.

Between $10-$20 on books, per month. I watch maybe one movie every three to eight months, but I can let a whole year or two pass without seeing a single one and not really miss it. I just had to see Les Mis, though, and that was at a cheap theater that was maybe $5 for a ticket. If I get really into something, then that eats into and displaces my book budget, like the time I discovered Shoomlah's historically accurate Disney princesses series and splurged on DVD's to re-watch and re-live the cell-animated 1990's musicals and The Princess and the Frog. Or when I found out that Colin O'Donoghue, who plays my very favorite version of Captain Hook, was in a couple of movies before breaking into television. I don't buy books when I do that, and that grieves me just a teeny tiny bit...but I never feel sorry for having to pass up on DVD's, or cute clothes, or gadgets, because I bought books.

Video games...sometimes, maybe. Most consoles take planning and budgeting, and I order the games, though, so those are not usually impulse buys or semi-impulse buys like books are.

I normally spend about $20 on books, and for movies, I just use my sister's Netflix account.

Books have gotten more expensive recently, probably due to the lack of demands now that there are cheaper options available... it's a little sad, really, but I won't stop buying them!

The good thing is, if you don't mind buying used things, there's a handful of places where you can get book for cheap.

Wow guys. I spend anywhere from $50 to $300 or more on books/movies each month. Hardbacks are usually $40 or more depending, and Andy wants some for himself too. Then movies can start as low as $10 and our Friday nights are all about the movies! So I guess I spend a small fortune. :/

I spend about $8 a month on Netflix, and my sister pays for our Hulu (we share a house). I go to the library a lot, but I still end up buying 4-5 books a month. I rarely buy new books though, so between Goodwill and my local used bookstore I maybe spend about $15 a month on books. I'm a huge cinema fan though, and I build movie tickets into my budget every month. I'm currently doing my masters, so a student ticket here is $7, and my theater has reusable cups for soda, which runs $1.50. I normally buy something from the drugstore and just sneak it in, hidden in my purse (I know, I'm awful). I generally see 4-5 movies a month, sometimes more if there are a lot of good releases. Overall, I'm happy with the amount I spend.

Wow, where are hardbacks over $40? That's crazy! I rarely buy hardbacks unless it's a book I was dying to read, and absolutely cannot wait for the paperback. Any books I don't buy used I tend to buy off of Amazon, because they give a discount and I have prime shipping- hard to resist the free 2 day shipping!

It's a pretty cold day in you know where if I'm paying to see a movie. The only movie I'm interested in seeing is the new Hunger Games movie. I don't like the cinema because the ones around me are always full of people, and I don't like movies because I don't like to sit still for two hours. So I spend a whopping $0.00 on movies a month. Big spender over here!!

Books are a different story, because reading keeps me engaged and I can put a book down and come back to it after a brisk walk while my brain digests everything I just read, which I can't pause a movie in a theater and do the same thing, nor can I do that with movies on TV. I like going into old book stores on account of they smell wonderful and they have lots of different kinds of books for cheap. There are also the occasional gems at the Good Will and Value Village. Unfortunately, the nearest big bookstore chain is in the city and I have no way to get there, so I only have access to three places to buy my books. On the plus side, it is cheap, and I can get many good reads. My book budget probably turns out to be anywhere between 5 and 30 dollars a month, depending on the month and the books.

Movie streaming websites are unavailable here in the Philippines, so I really watch movies in theaters. I spend about $20 dollars a month in theaters.

When it comes to books, I spend around $40 because I love hunting books in second-hand shops. There are many of those here. :)

Hunting! I like that imagery when it comes to books.  :D I think of it that way too. It feels somehow more meaningful to find the perfect book in a second hand shop as opposed to getting it off of Amazon or something. I always get second hand books for stocking stuffers for my family and friends for Christmas. How much do second hand books typically cost in the Philippines? I find it hard sometimes to pay the price that some official second hand book stores charge, when the thrift shops are so much cheaper!

Currently, I have no money for either.  I just go to the library or read things I can get for free on my kindle.  When I had money I occasionally bought a book or two a month, so probably not more than $10 a month.  I rarely pay for movies, I don't watch many at all and my room mate is the one who owns the TV, so we just watch her things.

I normally go to the thrift store or library for most of my books so I don't spend very much. I really don't like to buy books brand new because they are an expensive way to entertain myself. The only real time I will pay full coverprice for a book is if it is a reference type book or cookbook that I am going to use for years to come. I would never spend more than $5 for a novel that is going to be read through and just sit on the shelf for a long time to come untouched.

I don't spend money on movies, in fact I haven't been to the theater in years. The only way I'd go is if it was a movie I really wanted to see. Usually, I just wait a couple of months until the movie comes on HBO.

As for books, with paperbacks I usually spend maybe $20 or $30 dollars on them, and most of the time I'm using a gift card to help pay for it. With ebooks, I tend to find a bunch of them that are free and download them.

Well, I just went to the thrift store the other day and ended up getting 6 books for less than $12. I bought a total of 4 books for my kids and then got a couple novels for myself to read during the summer. The novels were newer release books, so I got quite the deal on them. Amazon is my other go to place for books because they have just about anything you could ever think of.
