This book is a collection of stories, which admittedly I read for school, but I'm glad I did. The titles in it include The Landlady, William and Mary, The Way up to Heaven, Parson's Pleasures, Mrs Bixby and the Colonel's Coat, Royal Jelly, Gregory Progy, Genesis and Catastrophe, Edwards the Conqueror, Pig, and The Champion of the World.
My favourite is The Landlady, which is about a young man who goes to a bed and breakfast. He can smell almonds and he's surprised at the lady's register: she has two other guests which he can't put his finger on remembering, but does. They've been there for like 3 or so years. She says they've never left and slowly he comes to realise the animals in the house are dead (stuffed) and the story ends with him figuring out that the old lady did that to her other guests, and is going to do it to him. I read the book years back, and would read it again just to read that story.
I'd recommend it to anyone!
