Title: This Is Where I leave You book/movie
Post by: WillaCatherFan99 on 01:07am Tue, Sep 23, 2014
Has anyone managed to see This is Where I Leave You yet? I read the book (by Jonathan Tropper, who also wrote the screen play) and caught the film this weekend. I was left a little disappointed. I thought the book was great, really funny, and overall such a snappy, snarky, quick read. I think the cast was brilliant- Corey Stoll has been a favorite since House of Cards, Jason Bateman, Jane Fonda, Adam Driver, the amazing Tina Fey- but it fell a little flat for me. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the film in the sense of "eh, it was okay". It just didn't have the same joy as the book and felt a little pedestrian. I saw August: Osage County last winter and thought this would be the comedic answer to that movie. I don't mean to discourage people from seeing it, but I'd love to know what other people thought of the film (or book).

I have not read it or seen it.  Not familiar with it's relationship to August, Osage County either.  I know the local theater festival did the play August, Osage Country last year or maybe the year before, I don't remember now, it's all blurring together.  I heard good reviews about that.

I might add that book to my reading list though, it sounds really interesting.  I will definitely hold off on seeing the movie until I read the book though.
