SO! What is a book that you loved/adored/would have made babies with....but everyone else seemed to hate it. That book that when mentioned, gets you weird looks.

The book that should be kept as your dirty little secret.

Am I the worst for saying that I read those Harlequin of the month books a lot?  :$ They're so cheap at my local used bookstore- you can get around 10 for $4, and they're such quick reads. The whole time I'm reading them, I think how awful the writing is, and how cliched the premise is (seriously, how many attractive Greek billionaires are there??), but they're such a guilty pleasure. I'd rather read them than a gossip magazine, but I tend to keep it to myself. Luckily I'm a fast reader so I still get plenty of "worthwhile" reading in as well!

I read Twilight and liked it.

The romance bored me, Bella gets annoying, but she started out sounding really well-grounded and she did actually have character quirks. Meyers' voice and style is sophisticated without being obtrusive.

All that said, I wouldn't want to maintain any friendships where anybody gave me a weird look for a book that I liked, so I am totally shameless and secret-free :P

(Or maybe I'm not, but I can't think of anything off the top of my head right now that I'm ashamed of, and if I won't make a secret that I don't consider Twilight all that bad then I can't think of anything else!)

I think that's a great attitude to have about reading. So many times I see people shaming others about their entertainment choices. Yeah, I like to read Kafka but that doesn't mean I won't delve into the Southern Vampire series. I don't think every choice of reading needs to "add" something to my life. Sometimes it just gives me a few hours of entertainment. I knew a girl in high school who loudly proclaimed that she ONLY read classics, which I thought was unbelievably sad. You're missing out on a lot of future classics if that's your attitude.

I read lots of Mills&Boonesque books. I like that I don't have to 'think' about the storyline too much, the endings are comfortably predictable and they don't take long to devour.
I also read the complete Fifty Shades trilogy (which I regularly slam for being so badly written) but I actually sort of liked them LOL

I'm not sure I would call them my dirty little secret though, I have no issue talking about them, and couldn't give a shit if others think I'm a loser or sad for reading them. I just like to read, and I will pretty much read anything. I have even been known to read the dictionary and thesaurus.

I admit that I read Twilight and loved it. I actually read all the books and loved them. However, when KStew made a boring Bella Swan, I started hating the novels with a vengeance. I read all four of them in a matter of weeks, and the movie was such a letdown, I almost cried.

Hmm another really "dirty" secret is Fifty Shades of Grey. I don't understand why people only see the sex part of the book. Sure, the language used is not great (considering that it is originally a fanfic), but the story is something that should be acknowledged by people.

Julia Quinn Regency romance novels. They're formulaic and there's not a lot of variation between characters and plots from one book to another, but she's got a very readable writing style and an eye (ear?) for humour. They're what I like to call fluffy reads for when I'm not in the mood for something heavy or I need cheering up. But I'm supposed to be a proper hardcore fantasy and science fiction fan, so the people I'll admit reading romance to are very limited in number!

Having said that, even some of my fantasy authors probably count as fluff. I've got a friend who buys me a lot of the young adult fantasy books for birthdays and Christmas, and I probably wouldn't admit to enjoying quite so many of those to most other people.

My dirty little secret are Goosebumps books! I adore them and they still scare me ha ha. I love that they're simple, they're a story, and it feels good, like a novelty and a nostalgic moment :D.

I am a huge fan of Nicolas Sparks books and people roll their eyes at me when I buy one.  Yes, they are cheesy love stories, but there is always an interesting suspense filled twist in the books.  There is almost always a bad situation that the couple has to overcome and I can read one of these books cover to cover in less than a week.

PS...I have found that the movies are never as good as the books!  It is always such a let down to me when I watch the movie after reading the novel.

I LOVED the Horatio Hornblower series.  Even though I am a woman and almost a pacifist, I just loved the stories.  There were a lot of things I related to, like the sense of duty, and feeling bound by it at times.  His ideas about what a good leader is and how that works out were so interesting.  I've mentioned it to a few people here and there and no one else was ever interested in the books, no one ever even saw the TV series, which I found on youtube later on and have watched multiple times now.

I read all types of books, but at one stage I really enjoyed Tom Sharpe. They are just so simple and really funny. I found them relaxing. They are like taking a break from some of the heavier stuff.

I also enjoyed some Roald Dahl. I think these books are mostly junk, but some have really amusing situations in them which can give one a good laugh!

About Bunny
Jade Elizabeth is an eccentric young woman who enjoys writing stories and poems with hidden deeper meanings. She is quoted saying “Writing to me is not a hobby. It's a passion. It's something that lets my thoughts expose themselves, and my heart shine through where other art could not.

Commonly her poems are inspired by love or depression, and are dedicated to the people who encouraged the emotion. Given the chance she will readily pull her poems apart, exposing the deeper and hidden meanings behind her words.

Her stories are usually unspoken messages to those close to her – giving every story a hidden meaning. Some things are better left unsaid, or in her case, expressed indirectly through stories.

Jade used to write Documentation for Simple Machines in her free time, but has since begun studying and working, which takes up most of her free time now.
