TYPE OF STORY: sad, love, heartbreak
WRITTEN: 27th nov
INSPIRATION: a dream...
DEDICATION: My Rock
She stood before him, staring into his eyes as her hair fluttered behind her in the icy wind. The only noise was the leaves scraping the sidewalk and the whispering and moaning of the trees. From a distance a passerby would note the two and think perhaps they were talking, but neither said a word. She shifted her weight, and he shuffled his feet. “Meia…” he started.
“What?” she replied, a little too quickly perhaps, as the trees scolded her.
“Don’t do this” his eyes pleaded, he stood still, a stride away from her.
“Don’t do what?” she glared into his eyes, digging her thumbs deeper into her pockets.
“Don’t beat yourself up over this” his eyes lowered.
“I’m not” she continued staring at his face, glaring, her blue eyes piercing him even though he had looked away. He didn’t believe her. He wanted to argue but something held him back. He shuffled his feet again, raising his face to look back at her. She looked away.
“Why…why did you call me that?” he asked.
“Call you what?” she looked back slightly puzzled. He shuffled his feet again and she whispered the name she always called him by. He froze and raised his face again to look back at her.
“Why do you call me that?”
“Because you are” she whispered, a tear falling down her cheek as her lip wobbled. She turned away, the trees whispering their sympathies. She bit her lip, and he shuffled his feet again. The wind blew her hair over her face and she was thankful for the privacy. Behind her, the park was empty; it was too cold for children to play. Behind him, a distance off, a car passed by every now and then on the road where his car was parked. She uncovered her face and stared at him, not bothering to wipe the tears. She bit her lip. She shifted her weight and looked away again. The trees moaned and creaked. She listened, turning back to him, her eyes ablaze and whispered “why did you have to leave?”
He looked sad, and he shuffled his feet.
A tear rolled down his cheek as he whispered back, “because I'm not…and I never will be.”
They stood there for a moment, and then he leaned forwards and kissed her cheek whispering; “I’m sorry Meia…” she gasped back tears as he turned from her and walked away. She watched him drive away from her knees, blurred by her tears and segmented by her hair. The trees creaked and moaned, whispering to her as the wind howled around her. But all she heard was silence.
