Last week I showed you how to do
Tubular Herringbone or Ndebele. This week I will show you how to add a spiral.
As always you will need some materials. Beading Needle, beading thread of choice and seed beads. this time around I am using two colours to make the spiral more obvious. Start with the same 16 bead ladder, alternating colours.
Join your ladder in a circle as with straight Tubular Herringbone and add your first row in the same way as for straight Tubular Herringbone, going down through one and up through the next bead to the left. Then step up at the end of the row through two beads.
This next row is where things change. Pick up your next two beads, go down through one bead, then instead of coming up through only one bead, come up through two beads.
Continue to do this for the whole round. Add two beads, go down through one and up through two beads. You will see a small amount of thread to start off with, but it becomes less noticeable as you go. At the end of the row you will need to step up through three beads instead of only two.
Keep adding rows in the same manner. You will notice that the beads begin to spiral.
If you would like a more intense spiral then complete the first two rows after the ladder in the same way. Then on the third row, add your two beads, then go down through one bead and up through three beads. At the end of the row you need to go up through 4 beads to do the step up.
Continue to add rows, adding two seed beads, going down through one bead and up through 3 beads. You will see the spiral is more obvious. The final shot shows the two bead up spiral, the three bead up spiral and the straight Tubular Herringbone side by side.
I hope you have enjoyed this weeks tutorial. As always, if you have any questions, I will do my best to answer them.
