Imagine that your character was sentenced to death. Maybe they committed the crime that led them there or maybe they were falsely accused, but regardless, they are going to die.

What would their request be for their last meal?

So this might be a little morbid, but think about it. A person's last meal can say a lot about them.

Do they choose the most extravagant, expensive meal possible? Or do they choose a homey meal that reminds them of their childhood? Do they choose a food they've never heard of before? Do they waive the choice entirely because they're too upset to even care? What do you think this says about your character?

(Bunny, I think this would be better suited for the Character forum, but I can't post new threads there: http://www.creativeburrow.org/characters/)

For some reason, I feel like I can only answer for characters of mine who currently have scenes in jail. All of my other significant characters are just staring back at me like, "That is never going to happen! What is wrong with you??"

This pirate captain of mine would order a ridiculously elaborate meal with persnickety demands like finely ground chili peppers because he doesn't like any flecks to show in his teeth as if anybody would or should care...and seduce the gaoler into taste-testing it first in case of poison. Hope springs eternal, and it's probably a ruse to distract people enough that he could escape.

My version of Granuaile would order fresh-baked crusty bread, soft cheese, ripe fruit out of season and wine. She thinks she's being humble about it, but she's half a pirate and half a landed titled lady so it's far better fare than most other prisoners could even think about.

My earth mage priestess would be too depressed to eat because she feels guilty, although if she happened to be in jail for something she knew she was innocent of, then fruits in season, root vegetables, and spit-grilled fowl or rabbit would be her request.

Lamb or calf and potatoes with garlic-roasted mushrooms and gravy for the landlubberly new crew recruit.

Why don't any of my seafarers like fish?

The attorney that disrupted the proceedings in an impassioned way would have calmed down with a lot of desserts, but then again she's not about to die. She tells me it wouldn't make a difference, she always has a sweet tooth.

Lmao! Yeah, I know that feeling. I have a hard time even coming up with what MY last meal request would be like because it's hard to imagine ever being in that situation. It does really start the thought wheels, though, doesn't it?

It does, thank you for making this topic! :) It was quite timely for the characters in my mind who it would happen to, since I was thinking of a jail scene but the last meal aspect just didn't occur to me.
