As part of our http://www.creativeburrow.org/index.php?topic=1826.0 I'm going to make you practice designing covers - because one day you may have to!

Requirements to Enter
 - BunnyRabbitSex member.
 - Have posted an introduction topic.
 - Have requested a badge (ask in your intro or PM me).

Requirements for Entries
I want you to take or find a photo of anyone or anything. It can be anything you like, but if it's nude please make it tasteful. When you have a photo you like you can edit it as you wish and then design a front cover for a book with it (no backs). Cover must be (w x h) 5" x 8" or 360px x 576px.

The cover must include:
-Title
-Author
-Illustrator (if applicable)

The cover may also include the following:
-Awards
-Badges
-Criticism/Supporting comments

When you've designed your cover, post it as a reply to this topic and include the genre it's supposed to be. Also let us know if you took the photo yourself. You can post as many as you like! ONE COVER PER POST! Do not use images which have already been used in this topic.

Judges and Judging Method
We will have a system of judging where covers with photos taken by hand will start with 5 points automatically, and all covers will score 1-10 from each judge (Metallica48423, and LtStorm). Most points wins!

Due Date and Prize
You have until the 30th May to submit covers. After 11:59pm on the 30th (forum time), submission will be considered closed. The winner will be allowed to choose a book from the second hand book pile, which is shown in the main announcement topic.

Resources to Help
Deviant Art - Free photos
Google Search of Free image editing programs - Paint.net, FotoFlexer, and Gimp are all really good alternatives if you don't have photoshop.
Tiny Pic - A place to upload images. Please register for free first so they always stay online there :).

Entry #1
Genre: Horror
Score: 1-10: 10
Why/advice: Love it. Very evocative title, and cover art that gives you a good idea of what's in store. Also picks the font wisely, choosing something that fits with the theme of a gritty horror story.

Entry #2
Genre: Crime/Suspense
Score 1-10: 6
Why/advice: Decent attempt.  The photo of the person on the cover is a bit too stark and grimy looking, which kind of detracts from the cover overall.  Probably would've been better if that'd been washed out a bit, or less starkly colored/shadowy.  The title text's red is a good contrast, and the font choices are good.

Entry #3
Genre: Fiction/Fantasy
Score: 1-10: 5
Why/advice: This cover feels very generic. There's no clear relationship between a Ferris wheel and the title.  Font choice and color contrasts are good, however.

Entry #4
Genre: Self-Help/Non-Fiction
Score: 8
Why/advice: Nice cover, relevant art that's appropriately kept in the background to avoid crowding the text that makes itself the feature of the cover.  Clever title, and good font choice as well.

Entry #5
Genre: Self-Help/Non-Fiction
Score: 6
Why/Advice: I'm not sure what the title refers to.  A condom?  Your penis?  The Dalai Lama?  I don't know.  Past that, same critique as for Entry #4.

Entry #6
Genre: True Crime
Score: 8
Why/Advice: Evocative, but not quite as stark as it could be.  Cover art and title appear to reflect one another, font choice is good. Point docked for grammatical error in title.  "Dylan's Silence" is what it should read.

Entry #7
Genre: Crime/Mystery
Score: 7
Why/Advice: Interesting cover, though the art is a bit vague in what it's trying to convey, but I can guess at how it's supposed to be linked to the title.  Good font choice, just not an incredibly evocative cover.

Entry #8
Genre: Crime/Suspense
Score 1-10: 7
Why/Advice: Same as Entry #2, other than that I'll give it another point for making the text pop better, and distinguish it better from the cover art.

Entry #9
Genre: Alternate History (Horror?  What?)
Score 1-10: 6 (+5 added for use of own photo)
Why/Advice: I can sort of see what you're going for here, but most of this is nonsensical.  Namely the reference to Time Magazine.  If you're going to reference Time, you need to follow through by emulating their cover design.  While the use of the portrait of Hitler displayed on one of Time's issues is good, you stripped it of its iconic red border, which did not appear at all in your cover, and is really what makes Time magazine recognizable.  Past that, while the use of your own photo is nice, it's entirely tacked on and irrelevant, creating a disjunction between the title and the cover art.  That's not a German tank, or at least not a WWII era one that would be directly relevant to the book, not to mention the offer of a free poster is random.  In fact, did you post this in the wrong contest?  As I don't even know of any books Time puts out with their title on it, and this appears to be an attempt at a magazine cover.

Actually Storm it's a Tiger tank, which is German :).

He wanted to post his ACTUAL book cover design but didnt feel comfortable so I told him to do the same sort of concept with something different. So that sort of explains the randomness lol.

But agreed on the other stuff.

Sorry for being so late getting this up ^_^;

Entry #1
Genre: Horror
Score: 1-10: 10
Why/advice: This cover is epic.  It is not too grotesque but it's not watered down.  It seems to perfectly portray the motif of the subject in the title.

Entry #2
Genre: Crime/Suspense
Score 1-10: 7
Why/advice: This title is something that I could see it being difficult to come up with ideas for graphically.  I just can't like the colour scheme for some reason, and as Storm mentioned, it seems a bit too much.  To me It seems too devoid of emotion.  The surprise in the subjects eyes doesn't seem to be the fear I think was being reached for.

That said, the subtitles were hilarious.

Entry #3
Genre: Fiction/Fantasy
Score: 1-10: 5
Why/advice: I have to agree this feels sort of generic.  I can see the idea in the title and in the graphic, but it's just not immediately gripping to me for a cover.  This seems like a hard title to show graphically, though, so I can understand.

That said... I can't stop laughing at the author name.  I'm that immature :P

Entry #4
Genre: Self-Help/Non-Fiction
Score: 9
Why/advice: A nice balance of color that isn't overwhelming, but also very simple.  The quotes font I didn't think really matched the simplicity of the rest of the image -- that is the only thing that really kept me from giving this a higher rating.  But it was still a decent fit so I'm not going to be hard on it :P

Entry #5
Genre: Self-Help/Non-Fiction
Score: 7
Why/Advice: I'm also not sure what the title refers to.  I'll assume that it's nothing phallic.  Again, I like the simplicity, but not the over-elegance of the font of the comment lines.

Entry #6
Genre: True Crime
Score: 10
Why/Advice: The message the graphic puts out is perfect given the title.  It's not overdone nor over simple.  Although I think a little color might've been useful, I can see how it goes with the silence motif.

Entry #7
Genre: Crime/Mystery
Score: 5
Why/Advice: I'll be honest, I don't see the relevance of the graphic.  I mean, thinking hard about it, I can see the person alone in the street -- it doesn't scream homeless too me.

Ignoring the graphic, I like the title font and color scheme.  I also like the way you've done the author name.

Entry #9
Genre: Alternate History
Score 1-10: 7
Why/Advice: Good references, particularly the german tank.  I WANT one of those posters!  I'm not fond personally of the font face used.  It seems overly elegant for the nature of the graphic used.  Time magazine reference was interesting, especially coupled with the idea of the speculative nature of the subject.

About Bunny
Jade Elizabeth is an eccentric young woman who enjoys writing stories and poems with hidden deeper meanings. She is quoted saying “Writing to me is not a hobby. It's a passion. It's something that lets my thoughts expose themselves, and my heart shine through where other art could not.

Commonly her poems are inspired by love or depression, and are dedicated to the people who encouraged the emotion. Given the chance she will readily pull her poems apart, exposing the deeper and hidden meanings behind her words.

Her stories are usually unspoken messages to those close to her – giving every story a hidden meaning. Some things are better left unsaid, or in her case, expressed indirectly through stories.

Jade used to write Documentation for Simple Machines in her free time, but has since begun studying and working, which takes up most of her free time now.
