Designing characters for my childrens book

Well, some of you know I plan to write a childrens book. I also want to illustrate it...so I'm sort of going to post inspiration and research here, as well as my own drafts.

I want something fairly quick to draw, so I'm looking at either doing a creature, or minimizing an animal. As part of my research I'll be looking at other peoples creatures and drawings for inspiration and ideas.



It's a cute creature, and it doesnt need arms....which I struggled with on my own ideas.

Yeah I sort of hit a dead spot lol. I'm going to hand draw some when I get the chance :D.

Oooo, another really old thread bumped.

So did you ever finish working on your children's book? Are you still working on it? Did you go with simple creatures like this?

You definitely draw like a real professional. Did you take any art classes or is it just born talent? I also enjoy the color contrast in the drawings because they help balance out the tone and the mood of the picture. In addition, I really love it because it is well organized and will bring your story book to life. Good Job.

Sorry guys this was a remnant for when the drawing burrow was for help too... so I moved it to the right area!

Those drawings arent mine, but pretty much all of the cartoony ones on this site are mine. I drew them all. So all of the message icons, smileys, rabbits, and buttons on this site I created. My favourite buttons are here:

Anyway back on topic. I did not find a creature to do...but I think I can reuse an old creature I made and only used in one piece of art. It's kind of like a bird but it's more of a blob ha ha.

THAT'S it! I was trying to think what he reminded me of, but of course the only kiwi I ever met was on a can of shoe-polish.

I honestly think your characters look very cute and charming. Kids will love them. Some advice I would give is to make sure your characters match well with the characters in the children's book.
