Title: Do you ever wish you could do magick like they do in the Harry Potter stories?
Post by: hoodoowytch on 08:02pm Mon, Jun 2, 2014
Oh ye gods how I wish working magick were that easy! Waving a wand and saying a few words and TA DA! Oh, to be able to travel by a flying broom, floo powder or apparating...although apparation never sounded like it would be all that comfortable to do.  ;P

What would you be a good wizard/witch...or would you be a dark wizard or witch?

I think I would be chaotic good. I would use dark magic to enforce good magic, and so on ha ha. Power would really go to my head quick I am sure of it. I would be drunk on it.

Can totally relate with this one! I used to say the magic words from Harry Potter, and see if it would work. It won't though, since I'm a Muggle. Haha. Or maybe I just haven't found the right wand for me.  :P Anyway, I signed up with Pottermore, so as to experience the 'magic' since there would be no more HP movies.

Nope!

Much as I adore Rowling's work, her voice, her plots, her memorable characters, and the way she describes most of the setting... I don't actually like her magic system. I just thought it was really suspicious that Gamp's Third Law got brought up only at the time that it would have caused some convenient conflict during the camping trip.

Then, there's all those pseudo-Latin words that you have to remember, even to cast spells that don't require speaking. And even though Harry and Ariana and probably everybody enrolled has strange magical things happen to them even before they knew that they were wizards and witches, it's as if controlling them without a wand (like Tom Riddle could) is a bad thing. But wands are annoying to have to carry around all the time, and if someone breaks it then it goes wrong!

I'd rather be one of the X-Men.

I can see where having to constantly worry about keeping a wand intact would be annoying, but apparently the whole point of a wand is to serve a purpose similar to that of a precision laser. It keeps the magick focused and on it's target better than the supposed haphazard way of not having a foci to guide the power. You get a finely drilled holed opposed to laying waste the wall.  XD  Also, if I had a choice of powers X-Man powers, it would to be to instantly heal like Wolverine.

Otherwise, I would love to be able to make magick like the Harry Potter stories. My house would certainly clean itself for a start!  XD

I wonder, is there a magic word for instantly memorizing things? Since there's Confundus that can be used to confuse people, and Obliviate, I think, for losing or hiding someone's memories. If there's one, I'd totally like to be able to do magic! Haha.

OH YES! A memory charm that actually gave you a photographic memory when you needed it! Oh ye gods how I need one like that! There are days I'd forget my bum if it wasn't attached to me.  XD  I wouldn't mind being able to erase a few memories from time to time either.  ;P

Oh, how I would love a spell that could keep me young, healthy, fit, trim and immortal. Imagine the savings never having to use a car. Apparate or fly a broom...or floo powder. Whoosh.  =P

Long live the Dark Lord! LOL I can never forget Harry Potter even after many years have passed since I read my first HP and went catatonic after having read the last one. Wands are awesome, but I think I like BBC Merlin's kind of magic better - verbal or non-verbal spells and hand flailing. :)

I would like the ability to go invisible. That would do me just nicely.

Yes. Keep him alive, in your hearts. As in, d-don't let him out. Keep him there.

I would like the ability to go invisible. That would do me just nicely.

In Rowling's magic system you'd need a cloak for that. Or a secret-keeper.

In Pratchett's and Pullman's magic system, you're perfectly visible but people just can't pay attention to you, which is nifty and more realistic.

Although I loved the story about the cloak, especially how they did it in the movie with the shadow puppets.

I just LOVE the replies I have gotten thus far on this little blog thingie!  XD

Dear Runic...I bet you would look good in the Silver and Green of Slytherin.  ;D
I have to ask, though, what about those horcruxes? Nasty bit of magick there.  :S

Did anyone here like Dobby? I did...poor little bugger. I loved everything about the Harry Potter series of books. Shame there isn't any more further adventures of Harry, Ron and Hermione after they grew up, got married and had kids. Or even new adventures with the them and their offspring. There's always got to be a Dark Wizard with the ambition of ruling the world. After all, didn't Harry want to be a Auror? Could be a very cool series that could go on for a good long time.

What did Voldemort actually do that was bad besides being called evil and terrorising two families because he was trying to kill his undoing?

Something about a war, and organizing a bunch of racists and classists to be, like...racist and classist together, or something.

Murdered people to rip his soul apart to make horcruxes to become immortal.  Sounds pretty evil and bad to me. LOL

I dunno, I don't think that's evil enough for people to be terrified of even speaking his name lol.

yes i wish i could do magic like in Harry Potter...I'd be able to get whatever i wanted. or go to work on a broom instead of by car or bus/train. i could be at walmart and wave my wand to get specific items off the shelves and flown into my cart. or have a spell for money to appear or instant rejuvenation to my face for younger looking skin. Or wave my wand for a magic shower instantly or have a spell for having a magical force dress me everyday and do my makeup with my makeup brushes flying in the air doing my makeup/ or food..prepared with a wave of my wand the porkchop is cooked in the pan. ahhh...i wish! xx

I've often wondered about this but I am sure I would end up homeless. Not sure how I would make money in the magic world.

LOL I thought the same thing until just now...with you saying it it suddenly occurred to me I could make a lot of money in the muggle world with magic ;).

But I'd be poor as hell in the magic world :/.

I love the story of Harry Potter. It's something that I would be proud to show my children (to be) but to be one of them is a big NO for me. Harry Potter's world is too complicated that even magic cannot make things easier. There are lots of rules to follow and those who disobey the rules are quite dangerous. However, if I would be ask what kind of witch I'd be, maybe a kind one. I always try to live a peaceful and secured life and I can only get that by being a simple citizen who follows the law.
