I have found myself often in front of my computer with a complete blank as I have no idea on what to write and what I was doing in the first place. It only dawns on me much later and then do I realise that I had a deadline to meet.

That sucks when that happens.

It certainly does and it happens to me often lately! I find that when I do eventually get to wake up in the middle of the night with something to work on I get up and go write so that it is fresh in my mind and I can take what I can until it lets me down again. :)

The only thing I've found to have helped is taking a strict day off to recharge, sometimes more. Then I do what I want to do, no work, and it really helps.

That is actually a really good idea as sitting trying to do the work doesn't happen and it would be better to walk away and start fresh on a new day.

Maybe some of our fun games or challenges might get your mood up and your creativity back?

As soon as I get a mental block, I just stop. At that point my mind said 'Oh sorry, that's as far as I'm going for now'. Usually a mental block is met with frustration, anxieties and that's usually what prevents you from being creative. I go for a walk or sometimes I play a really dumb no brainer game on my phone. It's weird but I find 'dumbing' my mind helps to relax me and open my mind. Weird, yes, I know!

That makes perfect sense Natty, you get to recharge while being entertained!

In fact I do that every single night ha ha. I play mind numbing games until I hear myself snooring and then I put the phone down lol.

oh lolololol! I thought I was the only one that did before sleeping. I do it especially after a stressful day.

Ha ha it's such a weird feeling being between sleep and awakeness when you can hear yourself snore and watch your game ha ha.

I definitely have my fair share of times when mental block sets in. It really sucks, but like Nattybatty, as soon as I can feel myself getting frustrated, I stop and take a break. My creativity comes in pretty sporadic bursts, so sometimes I can end up having a mental block for days or weeks at a time. Once I started a story, completed it halfway through, and then didn't go back to it again until a year later! The second motivation strikes again though I'm back at it.

If its just a temporary sense of frustration and not long-term though, I set aside what I'm working on and relax somehow; watch some anime or TV, read a book, play a video game to relieve tension, have a drink.  If I try to force myself back into a creative mood it usually back fires on me and I just end up spending even more time wasted that could have been put to good use.

So when you're starting to feel this mental block coming on, don't be afraid to take a break!! It doesn't make you a bad writer, artist, or content creator in general if you need some time off once in a while.
