http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/theroyalfamily/5960819/Prince-of-Wales-prepares-for-an-organic-dispute.html

Unfortunately, Prince Charles forgets that his opinion on organic foods is...an opinion, and he lacks the science to back it up.

I'm going to have to say the study that sparked this news article fails to surprise me.  Sadly, I doubt it's going to surprise any of the dumbasses that pay more for "organic" foods either.  They'll continue to parrot the nutritional value of foods raised without modern techniques and methods.

So, what do people here think of "organic" foods?  Do you eat them?  Why do you eat them?  What do you think they have over "non-organic" foods?

Ha ha the first test tube meat was made like last year? It tasted like beef but had the wrong texture. It also costed millions or more to make a teaspoon of it. Def not cost effective!

Yay for frankenfoods? :D

I myself don't eat organic food, but it sure as hell is better than the shit that is shoveled out onto the shelves.

Not to mention that from the article it seems that the FSA has a bias against organic food, so that may have a correlation to the results.

I've tried some organic foods, and some non-organics, plus I've tried home grown... guess what? They all taste like food. Some non-organic is a bit bland..bit too much water content etc etc. Organic stuff can be just as 'bleh'. Home grown often has extra protein ;)
From what I understand..there isnt much nutritional difference between them..but there sure is a price difference!!
I'm sure not using 'man made' chemicals on food would probably be slightly better for humans, but considering how much 'chemical' we ingest from pollution etc every day, I dont think its gunna make much difference. Just my little ole opinion..which isnt science

If I had my own garden and if I wasn't so lazy, I'd be growing my own food. Organic stuff is just stupidly overpriced, and non-organic is as well... Non-organic (especially supermarket foods) lack so much flavour. On the weekend, I had a fresh carrot that was sweet and tasty! I forgot how delicious real food can be. Lol. We have been eating non-organic food for years, and we're not mutating or anything.

I really never answered the question properly. I guess it all comes down to money, and taste. Sadly, the two never mesh nicely because fresh tasty veg/fruit is hard to find in stores. :(

That's weird. Most of the produce I find in my local HEB is grown within the state of Texas and fresh as well as delicious.

I'm in Australia, and most of the fruit and veg from Coles and Woolworths (our two biggest supermarket chain stores) are usually colourless, tasteless and just old.

Eww. That has to really suck. Even our Wal-Mart stores have decent produce.

It really does. Woolworth's catch phrase is 'The Fresh Food People', funny thing is... Most of their fruit has been in cold storage and has lost all flavour. I've avoided buying apples from them lately, mostly because it's oily, bruised to hell, and tastes like flour.

We have the Central Market in Chinatown in the CBD of the city which is usually good, apart from that, we rely on the independent grocers.

Might want to go along with that more often when you get the chance.

Yea I do, sadly, the central market is a 30min bus ride, and I don't own a car. So it makes it awkward to carry all my stuff around. I do what I can to avoid the evil fruit and veg of doom.

Maybe you should start eating canned stuff. It's not as flavorful... but yeah. Wow.

I don't mind canned baby potatoes, maybe baby canned corn in stirfry... I tend to buy snap frozen vegies that you steam cook in the microwave. Much tastier.

Those are good, too. My roommate Stretch picked those up recently and is amazing at makin' 'em.

Ugh LOL. I remember going to Safeway and not liking anything there. We had one closer to home I liked though.

What about Vic Market? I dunno where you are or whether they're open always but it might be worth it?

I'm in Adelaide, so no Vic market. We have the central market, if I can be bothered going all the way there lol

I try to stick with my standard kraft dinner and canned goods, as I don't have a real job haha. Sometimes, though, my girlfriend will pick stuff up from the organic section at Loblaws and I've never had any issues with it. I'm sure that, if anything, it must be a little better for you.
