I would love to see the Dresden Files series of books start becoming great movies. Getting the right director and cast would be imperative to making the movies do justice to this excellent series of books by Jim Butcher.

Jim Butcher, Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman and a few other authors are responsible for bringing out the writer in me and their styles of writing are helping me develop my own.

I think it would so cool to write a series of books that would get turned into some great movies one day.  :)

If you liked The Dresden Files, then you might like the October Daye series by Seanan McGuire! :D Her books feel more like mini-series than movie, though.

Lately, I've been reading The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making by Catherynne Valente, and it's such a classic hero's journey that I want it to happen in the style/cinematography of the Life of Pi movie. Bailee Madison would make the perfect Marquess (except I don't know how she'd look as a blonde... uh-oh, spoilers? Oh but cast someone else for that, it's fairy glamour anyway) except people grow up so fast that by the time this actually happens, if it ever does, she'll be very post-pubescent. I can't think of anyone who can play September, though.

The first three books about Tiffany Aching would make an amazing movie or mini-series, I think. I Shall Wear Midnight really felt like a book in a series of books what with the re-appearance of Esk. I can't think of anyone who would be absolutely perfect for so-or-so part, though.

If they ever make some short indie film out of The Goldfish Pool and Other Stories by Neil Gaiman, I want Colin O'Donoghue to fake a particular English accent and play Neil Gaiman(? Or "the narrator" if we must.) I can't see him, for some reason, in The Ocean at the End of the Lane, though--for that one, I think Alan Rickman can play Neil Gaiman(?? Sorry, "the narrator", sheesh...) But who could play young baby Neil Gaiman?

Oh, and I have a copy of the illustrated Haroun and the Sea of Stories by Salman Rushdie, and would love to see that animated in the same style that it's illustrated!

OMGs...I just LOVE Alan Rickman! He was the BEST person to ever play the role of Severus Snape in the Harry Potter movies! Hmm...I can see Rickman playing Neil/Narrator...although I haven't read that particular book yet.

OH! YES! The Tiffany Aching series of books. We have all those too! Those would be REALLY awesome to see as live action flicks. Not sure who would play the part of Tiffany...certainly no American actors.

If they ever do decide to do the Dresden Files as movies then I hope they get Paul Blackthorne to reprise the role. He was great as Harry Dresden and does an American accent really well. His natural accent is a really THICK English accent. Love it.

I might be an American, but I have to say most of my favorite actors/actresses are usually from the UK...and some others from other part of the world, come to think of it. With a few exceptions, I think most American actors are talentless eye candy. Too obsessed with youth and everyone has to be "beautiful" in order to be a leading man or woman.

A lot of the American actors/actresses I tend to like are the character actors that pop up everywhere and actually are BETTER than the leading actors. They never get leading roles, aren't the especially "pretty" people, but if it weren't for the great character actors supporting the lead actors, (who usually suck anymore), then the movie or show would be a washout.

Pretty sure Dresden files is a TV series, because it's on my TV series list of things to watch. Maybe have a look at that?

I wish the rest of Philip Pullmans Dark Materials books were made into movies.

I just thought up of another one: Extras by Scott Westerfeld. It's not exactly a fan favorite, because it's an epilogue to a trilogy that starts with an entirely new character and the themes are more about this dystopia where popularity is important--as in, they use it for currency--but I thought it made a great standalone.

Aww, I thought that the first one was rather disappointing. It was well-cast, I mean, the book character of Mrs. Coulter was written with Nicole Kidman in mind, which was neat. But I didn't like the CGI, and how they didn't lay on the horror as much with the daemon-severing in case it scared the little kids, and all the religious people were like twirling their mustaches when even Pullman wrote that kindly but ineffective priest dude early on. It was like His Shiny Glossy CGI Materials when in my head (of course I'm biased towards that) it was more like the Victorian era with talking animals and actually dark as in like Joss Whedon directed it (I adore Whedon as a writer, not usually so much as a director because he sometimes only shows moving Rorschach blobs his stuff is literally so dark.)

I think that Margaret Atwood's Oryx and Crake trilogy would be amazing as a movie. It is a dystopian tale and has so much potential. The right director could really make something amazing. Lately there have been  a few other dystopian novels turned into movies (Hunger Games, Divergent, etc.), so I think it would be popular with audiences. Oryx and Crake seems to be more a slightly more mature audience (it is not YA), so its style could be darker, which would be very cool.

The show only lasted for one season on SyFy channel before they dropped it for that awful Flash Gordon show that didn't even last more than a few episodes.

I have the entire season of the Dresden Files that aired on DVD. I re-watch them every so often. The books are just fan-fucking-tastic. LOVE them.  They would make a really kick-ass series of movies if done right.

We just got the newest Dresden Files novel...Skin Job. My hubby read it and now I am reading it...and it's intense and awesome!

I'd love to see The Handmaiden's Tale turned in to a movie. I know it was turned into one in about 1990, but I think it's time for an update. It has the dystopian world down pat, but for adult audiences rather than YA. Plus it would be great to see a majority female cast.

I would love to see more of Stephen King's novels adapted into movies. Doctor Sleep will be good especially for those who are fans of the shining. A reboot of Pet Sematary will also be a good idea. :)

I think the whole Uglies series would be an awesome film adaptation. Who knows, with all these alternate societal movies they are coming out with, we might see one soon! I'd pay to see any of those books adapted.

For anyone here who doesn't know yet...although I can't see any Pratchett fan not knowing...but Terry Pratchett died last month. 5th of March. They are going ahead and continuing to make the BBC series Night Watch....based on Terry's Disc World series of novels featuring characters from Ankh-Morpork's City Watch.  Since his daughter Rhiannon is heading the project and knows what her dad would have wanted, they are going to continue to created the series.

Terry did manage to get the Tiffany Aching novel he was working on finished before a very nasty chest infection took him down. It was slated for an October release, but with his untimely death the release date is up in the air at this point. Several of his books have been made into either animated movies or live action movies. Hogfather, Going Postal and Colour of Magick are the 3 live action ones I've seen and Wyrd Sisters and Soul Music are two of the animated one's I know about.

Just thought I would share this.

R.I.P Terry. Thanks for all the laughs.

The Epic of Gilgamesh!

I'm actually astounded by the fact that there is no (widely known at least) cinematographic adaptation of the oldest written story we know of. Last time I checked on the IMDB, there was an attempt to film it, but it must have fallen into development hell. And it's truly a shame, because the Epic has everything: adventure, friendship, sex, war, rebellion, gods, monsters, magic, mythical references, and the quest for immortality. Throw in Ishtar's descent to hell and you can also have a zombie apocalypse in your movie.

I can't explain the absence of a Gilgamesh movie after more than a century of cinema.
