I mean writing in general. If you're writing to make a living then you'd probably experienced this in a way. The other day I was filling up some articles that I got from a freelancing site, the pay was a pretty good but I started to get this feeling of sadness in a way then I asked myself, is this what I really wanted to do in life, just write?

Don't get me wrong I enjoy writing and I'm looking forward to the day that I get to write novels and fiction for a living but sometimes it's just too tiring getting there.

I kind of go in spurts. When I am in the moods to write, then I write. When I am not in the mood, then the words just seem not to be there, and I might as well go and do something else for a while.
I have a small family blog that I am working on, and it is basically just stores from our family history, so it can be passed do the grandchildren, andnot lost, as so often happens.
When a story comes to mind, then I write it and post it into my blog, and often also put it on Bubblews, when I feel that it is an appropriate story for there.
Since writing is not my primary occupation, it is really no big deal whether I write or not, and I don't have the same pressure on me to produce all the time, like a regular writer would have.

I never get tired of writing it is my one true passion. I guess with anything sometimes we go through a burn out period, that's when you have to step away for a while. Writing is one of the most powerful tools we have, words can uplift, destroy, free and even enslave. If you're feeling burned out just take a break from it if you can, if it is your true passion you'll always come back to it.

I think that I am much more a reader than I am a writer, although I like to write as well. I  don't think that I would ever write a book, or even try to  write a book; but I admire the people that do have that kind of ambition.
I am the same way with knitting or chrcheting. I usually don't make anything large, like an afghan (blanket) or even a sweater, although I have made a poncho and enjoyed doing that. I like a small project that i can finish up faster than one that takes me a long time. Even the poncho that I crocheted was made from granny squares; so itwent together one square at a time.
I don't even like reading books that are really long, or have a continuing saga. I was happily reading my way through the Outlander series, anf then just got tired of it right in the middle ofone of the books, and never went back to even finish that book, let alone read any more oof them.
Sticking to short stories or articles is much more my style of writing , too.

I think that if we are freelance writers we need to have a good business plan in place. Every time we start feeling burnt out or as though something isn't working for us, then we need to revisit that business plan and figure out what it is that's making us feel this way. I personally had to take some time off (a few months from this summer until this month) because I wasn't really into what I was doing anymore. I revamped everything I did and started all over again. So, far it's the best thing I've done as I really enjoy my work and the freedom it brings me. I hope you're able to find something that will allow you to feel peace like this too.

This last week was one if those in which I did not do much writing at all and I think it is completely normal. I just had no motivation to write and so I took a break. I think it was my mind and body telling me to relax for a little while. I woke up this morning and was ready to hit the ground running again.

As far as those who write for a full time living, I would say to write as much as you can when you are in the mood so that it does not have such an impact when you wake up one morning and just want to drink coffee and watch tv. It us like any occupation, sometimes you really just don't want to go to work. It is different when you are on someone's payroll though.

I am just learning to be a freelance writer, so I do not write full-time; and probably never will. Even so, I go through times when I feel like writing, and times when I just think my "writing brain" simply shuts down.
What I  have been doing that works for me, is to set small goals for myself.
When I reach the writing goal that I wanted; then I can either decide to go ahead and write more if I am still in writing mode; or take my break if I don't even want to look at the keyboard.

Then, what  I do is to read a book, watch a video on you tube, or just get out the knitting and work on a sock or a little throw rug instead.
By the next day, I am usually ready to get back on the computer, and write something again.

I had this in my most recent ghostwriting job. Most days of that I would just sit with writer's block, which was discouraging enough because ghostwriters aren't allowed to have writer's block, come on, this is a job, but then the client started messaging me and I started to feel worse than I thought possible that it was overdue. So I just typed instead of wrote.

50,000 words in a short week. Every day of that week, I would just keep several bags of potato chips and water bottles around, rush through bathroom breaks, set my alarm for 6 hours of sleep (just too bad if I had insomnia) and typed every waking not-eating-not-bathrooming moment until my eyes burned and the muscles or tendons under my shoulder blades stung. It was NaNoWriWe.

After that I kind of curled up into a ball and cried because it was sooo exhausting and I knew what I'd written was horrible.

But the client liked it. Whew.

Oh my goodness, 50,000 words in a week, no wonder you were stressed. I would probably have been in tears. Maybe you could write a few smaller pieces for a little less pay each so that you would at least have some variety. My hat is off to you if you got that project done on time!
