...do you find it harder or easier to write?

Easier. I'm one of those poets who can only really write due to love/pain ha ha. Shits me no end.

Me too! Unless of course I have to focus on something else that doesn't have to deal with my feelings lol. Then I'm totally screwed and distracted! But for poems and stuff it's definitely easier because you can feel it.

Yeah, it has to be a very strong and specific feeling, darn it.

With me it's 50/50. There are times when I'm distressed and it's hard to get any work done because I'm worrying about my problems. However, there are other times when I find writing to be helpful. Writing helps take my mind off the situation and release my bottled up emotions.

Much easier. I write poetry mostly and I just let my emotions flow through my pen and take form on the paper. Sometimes I write just to write, but when I'm emotionally distressed and I write, I pour my heart into my words.

I find it easier, but my writing style changes completely and is a little embarrassing. I prefer writing humour/satire, so if I'm feeling emotional, it tends to take on a more sombre tone which doesn't really feel natural to me. However, one of the best things I've ever written (in my humble opinion!) was a piece about what depression feels like - I wrote it when I had first started taking anti-depressants, had terrible insomnia and was at my lowest, so I guess you could say I was "emotionally distressed" then!

For me it's harder. In fact, it's pretty much impossible for me to write when I'm emotionally distressed. You guys are all so lucky, in a way :P I think that art influenced by true, strong emotions has the potential to be the best art.

I think somewhere in between because I tend to write more when I'm emotionally distressed. However, I can't seem to bring up any idea because it takes me a long time to think of something to write.

It's easier for me the more troubled I am. Since a lot of my writing is sarcastic, being emotionally distressed gives me the proper motivation to write without a filter. Sometimes I'll write something and think "Oh, man, that's not right". But when I'm having an especially crappy day, it's no holds barred.

Plus, I can write about what or who caused my distress and let loose with a barrage of words that I couldn't at the time due to political or societal restraints. Like, I really need to keep my job!

I don't really write very well when I'm emotionally distressed. In fact I pretty much cannot do anything when in that state.
But I don't seem to write well about what emotionally distressed me, even if it isn't about me, but about one of my characters. I use the emotion I was feeling and put it into the character. This can lead to some fairly colourful language and acerbic words being uttered by the character.

Seeing a bit of therapeutic writing being talked about in here, it's good. : )
Ever shared anything that you've written in a flurry of emotion? We're on a writing forum so I'm sure plenty of you have. How'd it go? Was it with someone you knew personally or did you post it online?
And is there anything you've never shared due to how personal it was?

I have shared. Most of the poetry that I wrote as an expression of my feelings as a teen is posted here LOL. My current NaNoWriMo is based off some of my experiences and reactions to emotions, and I intend to share it here when NaNo is over.

50/50. It is good to write when you're feeling down or stressed because writing (at least for me) is a way for me to let all that stress out and not get to me deeply. Most of my "best" works were made in a lot of stress and that was my way of getting all that trash out in paper. But sometimes, when I'm extremely happy, alone, sitting in a chair by the river, I get my paper and a pen and just start writing what I feel, which this time comes more animated and cheerful.

When i am stressed, i rest my mind by not writing but engage in other activities like going out or if i am at home , by just listening to soft or inspirational music.

I find it easy to write, but it is never anything useful or really worth writing.  It is probably great from some sort of psychoanalysis angle, but never anything I would want someone else to read.

I rather read than write when i am emotionally stressed out. When not reading , i pray and meditate and read the Bible to lessen my anxiety and feel uplifted.

I've only realized recently that I am in fact an emotional person. I get upset easily, I get angry and yes, tears are always on stand by! Writing has been my greatest comfort for these moments though and personally I have found that I have written the best when my blood is boiling. Especially poetry! You need the emotion to really drive meaningful work.

I would have to say easier. When i am emotionally distressed i seem to write better content. My feelings come rushing out when i write. I tend to write mainly business content at the moment so my feeling aren't that important at the moment, but when i am writing on one of my blogs i definitely write better when i am emotionally distressed.

It varies with me. Sometimes, I am so distressed or bothered that I can't focus on any actual writing. This tends to happen mostly when I've had a bad day at work, my bills aren't caught up, or my car broke down.  When I'm upset because of an incident with a boyfriend or a friend, those are the distressed moments that can actually lead to some real writing. I think that's due in part to being able to incorporate those personal emotions into a piece.

Yes, theres that as well. Sometimes you can be so stressed out that the last you want to do is write! But getting those words out will be comfort.

Both extremes work for me well. If I'm emotionally distressed I can write well. . .but the material I produce will be dark in nature because I'm trying to get something out of my system. It's like some kind of sublimation. Instead of screaming at someone I could write about characters fighting. . .murdering each other and sometimes it takes the pain away.

It depends entirely upon what I'm going to be writing actually. A journal entry or vent ramble might be 10x easier to write. At the same time, I find it damn near impossible to convince myself to write for my blog or work when I'm distressed. It's much more difficult than other tasks and I just can't seem to fit more than 2 words together before I want to erase them again. And that's IF I even bother putting the 2 words together in the first place, heh.

I miss keeping a diary! I wrote in one from ages 13 to 20. Then life got too busy. Its such a comforting thing to do. Now we all post our feelings on social media :)  Which I still love. lol

That depends on the nature of distress. Some conflicts have me hammering out pages, whereas other times it gives me ideas as to what to write, but I get too upset to actually focus and put it down into words. Still other times, it gets too much and I just shut down everything. I can't even say what the case is going to be until it actually happens.

Easier to write poetry, but harder to write engaging and understandable science articles. It is a bit of a double edged sword really in that respect.

If what I feel is in line with the current mood of my story, I find it easier. But when it runs against my story, it is harder, or sometimes, the story will took in a dark turn. A more concrete example would be if I am mad with someone, I immortalize them in my stories as villains. So my friends are kind of wary with getting me mad. Hahaha.

Depends on the emotion and what you're writing. If I'm distressed because I'm angry and I'm writing a horror suspense story, it can sometimes work as an advantage for me, but if I'm writing a romance well, it doesn't really translate to it that well.
