If that's the staff reporter, all I can say is, God help the rest of them. I didn't write such rubbish when I was ten years old, and the sentiments are so outdated it's laughable. It wasn't by any chance published on April 1, was it? Oh well, it's a master class in how not to write engagingly.

I saw this a while ago and just shook my head! I guess we don't focus heavily enough in writing in college and university.

But isn't this an editor fail too? I mean it is his or her paper.

I really do hope this was attempt at sarcasm!

I think, personally, if I were the editor I would have left it unedited and called it "satire" ha ha. Also I would have drunk myself to sleep and prayed heavily.

How on earth did this make it through an editor? It's bad enough that this appears to be an actual reporter and not simply a story that was submitted and featured.... but to think about how many other people would've read this before it made it to print? How does that happen??

How did THAT get past an editor?! LOL

Lol!

I have a little more understanding for something like that. It's a ridiculous mistake, yes, but I can see how someone may have thought "Man killed" and "Man shot to death" and ended up jumbling it up. Because it's TV, they don't have quite as much time to edit and look over mistakes for live broadcasts that might have 'become news' only moments before. Still ridiculous, though, hehe.

Of course, I'm sure everyone has read about how recently NBC flubbed up Neil Armstrong's death by reporting that Neil Young had died.  Ouch!  I am amazed sometimes at the errors I see on national news websites...

They were probably listening to the bootleg version of "Walk On" ...

(apologies to Neil Young)

I hear that Houston's
been talkin' me down,
Bring up my name,
pass it 'round.
They don't mention
Landing times
They do their thing,
I'll do mine.

Ooh baby,
that's hard to change
I just tell them
My name's Neil.
Got some stones,
some real strange,
But sooner or later
it all gets real.

Walk on, walk on the Moon.
Walk on, walk on the Moon.

I remember
the many scares,
Stayed up all night
Explorin' mares.
238-thousand
Miles from the 'hood,
But we still did
the best we could.

Ooh baby,
that's hard to change
I just tell them
My name's Neil.
Got some stones,
some real strange,
But sooner or later
it all gets real.

Walk on, walk on the Moon.
Walk on, walk on the Moon.

^ Haha! I love that tattoo! It 'speaks' to my sense of humour which is, evidently, a bit odd looking to outsiders.

How about this one? ^o)

Oh my, what a rebel! Not only is he rebelling against the systsem, but conventional spelling too!

I thought this was funny too...

Oh don't worry, it's "clean"!

There's probably a gazbillion (yeah, it's a real number...probably) messed up pictures I could post in this thread, but spamming is bad mmkay.

I think I mentioned in a previous post about how I have a pet hate for games and other software with bad spelling and grammar. Well, I just found this and thought you guys might appreciate it. By 'appreciate', I mean either laugh hysterically or cry uncontrollably at the obvious, oncoming doom of our species.

Roll up! Roll up! Grages here! Come and get your grages!

I was thinking that maybe this spelling is down to an accent. Perhaps the writer says 'garage' as 'grage'. Perhaps?  :|

G'rage - isn't that Klingon for "sour sauce or condiment"?

Maybe people want to make a statement with their wrong spelling? :) It looks funny and embarrassing at the same time.

I hope by now Lynzee improved her writing :)

USUALLY the only statement made effectively is "I'm illiterate" :/

Unless it was a silly accident, then it's just a funny.

I think in the case of those publications which put out those howlers online, it might just be that they put too much faith in their spelling checkers. Then either the spelling checkers were disabled or they, somehow, got their spelling checker confused by perhaps designating a non-English language and we have the hilarious results.

Alternatively, perhaps to the editor in question that was perfectly correct and proper English. I know that this is very possible because once I lurked in a non-native English forum where everybody was posting in English. Their spelling was perfect and their grammar was impeccable. Yet their sentence construction was truly out of this world. To me anyway. Most likely to them, that's the right way to use English.

However if you see something like this in, say, the BBC, it would really make you think, wouldn't it?

There would be nothing worse than going to get a tattoo and the tattooist spells words wrong on you....even if you show them the spelling on paper. I will never get a tattoo with words!

I really wonder how many Elese has actually done. I don't really want to know what she has done, though.

Some of these are less "funny" and more "horrifying" but I didn't feel like they deserved their own new thread. It's a list of some really bad publishing errors:

We are all human and make mistakes. Hopefully the editor will pay closer attention next time. Maybe he or she was having a bad day etc.

WOW. Putting all of her grammatical errors aside, I would like to focus on her as a person. (lol) I could NEVER be that way. I mean, I can't afford to finish college right now, but I'm working my ass off to afford to finish one day. And it KILLS me that I can't. People like her are so spoiled and ignorant. They don't even appreciate what they have and still expect everyone to do everything for them. Bitches. She needs slapped. I hoped she was harassed after that lol. Yeah that's mean, but seriously....

You know most of these errors have become so common place because of how casual our communication has become! Think about texting- how many short forms and abbreviations there are! All those shortcuts have made us lazy and mistakes are easily overlooked!

Lmao at the Missed Period book. I usually hate things that reference that particular topic, but that's hilarious. I hope the book is filled with a variety of protection options instead of the abstinence only variety of "Don't write at all!!" ;)

^ NSFW. Not horrible, but uses a word that's unprofessional, so I'm leaving it as a link instead of embedding it.

It makes me giggle so much that they focused on the grammatical side. <3

I wondered in prose if lunch capacity went hand-in-hand with breath control.

I meant LUNG capacity.

And I thought it was interesting how this one person believed that, "There is no Stan, that's just God when He's drunk."

Stan.

Stan?

Ohh, Satan!

Some of these are funny as anything, but some just make me cringe. I still make spelling mistakes sometimes...even after all these years....but DAMN! Some of these are just unforgivable. What are they paying some of these editors for?

That being said, however, I think the sever lack of grammatical knowledge and piss poor spelling comes from the fact that such things as texting are trashing the language. Spelling is becoming as optional as it was in places like "merry old England" when the language was still young...(or after when even when it became the "common tongue" come to think of it.)

I don't think teachers even bother trying to teach kids anymore either. They pass them to get rid of them and get a pay check. Not saying ALL teachers are like that...but I think a lot of them have gotten that way because the system is broken.
